A big congratulations to our Coca Cola Games Squad of 2015. They gave their very best and left everything on the field. Overall the boys won one gold thanks to Jone Elder who won gold in the Junior boys Javelin. He will be an athlete to watch in the future as he treads closely the footsteps of an LDS Alumni who himself was a Cokes Gold Medalist and champion javelin thrower. Today he is well known by the nick name Semi-Trailer in the NRL competition. Thanks to Jone's win, LDS were tied in 9th position with 5 other schools in the boys medal count.
The girls also won one gold, compliments of Senior girl Sera Narara who overcame some stiff challenges from her grade to scoop gold in the Senior girls High Jump. With Sera's win, the girls cemented their place in 12th position in the medal count, tied with 4 other schools. We cannot recall when a senior girl last won a Coca Cola games gold medal, which makes Sera's victory that much more special.

SOME disadvantaged families in the country will soon buy less firewood for cooking following the launch of the rocket stove project in Suva on Friday. The project, initiated by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, was piloted at LDS Church College in Tamavua early this year where about 30 students had the opportunity to make such stoves.
The students were recognised for their efforts when they were awarded certificates from line minister Rosy Akbar in front of the whole school and its management last Friday.
Ms Akbar said the project was dear to their hearts because of its financial advantage to poor families amidst the serious effects of climate change presently affecting the world.
"The rocket stove initiative is a noble project that we invested in to support women, children and the disadvantaged," Ms Akbar said.
"The rising cost of living and the demand for low cost of cooking options drove us to this project. Rocket stoves contribute towards the alleviation of the financial burden on families as well. The stoves are very efficient in saving firewood, time, money and the environment when compared to traditional open fire cooking methods.
"The stoves produced at this school will assist women and families in climate change adaptation and mitigation too.
"Communities can be assisted to adapt climate change and the rocket stove is one of that response. The stoves are capable of mitigating greenhouse gases released from traditional open fire cooking methods. Since the stoves are more efficient in terms of quantity of firewood, we will be able to minimise deforestation."
Ms Akbar added they were currently pursuing the potency rights to the ministry for the stoves.
"We thank the stove designer who is our projects officer, Ravulo Naulumatua. This is our very first training facilitated by the ministry with a secondary school in Fiji and we will remember today that a milestone is achieved in terms of our humanitarian cause."
School principal Michael Carthew said they were happy to have worked with the ministry on the project.
Here's the school's Coca Cola Games Squad to this year's Cocal Cola Games. The games kicks off at the ANZ Stadium, in Suva in three weeks time on the 24th of April. Let's wish them all the best and pray for their success.
On the 27th of March, 2015 the school was filled with excitement as the teachers and students got their classrooms ready for the visitation of our parents and guardians that afternoon. At 2pm everyone went home and came back dressed and ready for the PGTA that started at 6pm and the school dance after. There was a good turn out as we began with a PGTA meeting that was administered by our very own principal Bro. Michael Carthew.
A very big thank you to all the parents and guardians who were able to join their child/sibling. The program continued from the gym to the students homeroom, followed by the seven periods that the students have on a Monday(normal school day). It was a great opportunity for parents/guardian to learn what their child/sibling is learning in their different classes and they were also able to speak with the teachers. The bell went after every ten minutes which was an indication to move to the next class.
When all the academic side of things were taken care of, everyone made their way down to the gym and danced the night away until the clock stroke 11.
Thank you parents and guardians for your tremendous support and the Primary PGTA who provided us with yummy food at affordable cost, not forgetting all the hardworking teachers and students of Fiji LDS Church College.
The School's Photography Club provides ways for students interested in photography, especially beginners, to learn about the medium and increase their photography skills. Students discussed and learn to shoot in various modes and conditions, discussed and experimented with various terms and techniques, and worked on photographing people, animals, landscapes, etc.
In addition to learning beginning levels of photography, students were encouraged to submit their photos for publications such as the yearbook and School Blog, and if and when events arises, offer submissions to any local or national competitions. We thank our principal and our Librarian for overseeing and guiding the club. Please Enjoy this first portfolio from our students.
